The Parliament is calling for EU-wide legal limits on air pollutants such as 1,3-butadiene.

Barcelona, May 8 (EFE) - The plenary session of the Catalan Parliament on Thursday called, through a motion, for the Catalan government to defend the establishment of a "legal limit" for the concentration of certain chemical elements in the air "at the level of the entire European Union."
This was proposed in an ERC amendment to the motion presented by Comuns, which was approved with the favorable vote of all parliamentary groups except JxCat, the PPC, Vox, and Aliança Catalana, who abstained.
Regarding emissions from Tarragona's petrochemical industry, Lluís Mijoler, a member of the Comuns party in the Parliament, stated that, for his party, "environmental health is a fundamental right" and, as such, "cannot be a luxury."
"We've been accumulating an environmental debt to the citizens of Camp de Tarragona for decades. Demanding stricter controls, greater transparency regarding emissions, and updated regulations is the least we can do," he added.
Limit the environmental presence of 1,3-butadieneTherefore, the approved text calls for limiting the environmental presence of 1,3-butadiene , a gaseous compound produced during the processing of petroleum and which can concentrate in the air, producing a phenomenon known as "immission."
In order to reduce gas emissions, the petition approved by the Parliamentary Assembly calls for the Government to defend "before the central government and the European Union" a legal limit "in line with the regulations that already exist for benzene." EFE
