"A vast, virulent storm system": Corsica placed on orange storm alert

Corsica has been placed on orange alert for a "brief but active" thunderstorm between 9 a.m. and noon on Sunday, Météo France announced.
"A vast, virulent storm system has formed in the Mediterranean. It will move between the Var region and Corsica this Sunday morning," Météo France said in its latest bulletin published at 6 a.m. The meteorological service has placed the island on orange alert.
"The storms could be accompanied by gusts that could occasionally exceed 100 km/h on the coast and in the mountains, with hailstorms also occurring. Very strong gusts are expected at sea, between Corsica and the mainland, in connection with this system," Météo France said.
Clear spells are expected in the afternoon across the Mediterranean region.
