2030 Alps Olympics: Lyon administrative court seized by opponents

Opponents of the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps filed two appeals on Wednesday, May 21, denouncing the environmental impact in particular.
The JOP 2030 citizens' collective, along with associations, elected officials, and citizens, has launched two legal actions to try to cancel the 2030 Winter Olympic Games in the French Alps. The first is a summary judgment application to the Lyon administrative court to request the " suspension of the Olympic host contract ," which includes the creation of an Olympic village in Briançon and an ice rink in Nice.
The second is a referral to the Aarhus Committee, a body of the United Nations (UN) which must " ensure the application of the terms of the convention ratified by France ," the collective explains in a press release, pointing to " the environmental aberration, the democratic denial, the financial mismanagement and the opacity constituting the project ."
The group is also calling for a moratorium from the State " on special Olympic laws " and for the immediate referral to the National Commission for Public Debate " so that a public debate can be organized under the aegis of this commission ." Furthermore, a petition was filed last week with the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region and the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee (COJOP).
