Episodes of intense heat, which are likely to be repeated and occur at increasingly early intervals, raise questions about the design of buildings, which can quickly turn into ovens. In Besançon, the city has launched a major school renovation program. The Kergomard school is a prime example. It has no air conditioning.
Caroline Saurey, director of the Kergomard nursery school in Besançon, has experienced both situations: before and after the energy renovation work completed in 2024. "It's absolutely nothing like that," says the teacher who teaches the very young and the junior section.
