Controversy. Cemetery maintenance in Colmar: Christian Meistermann's response

Controversy. Cemetery maintenance in Colmar: Christian Meistermann's response

“Mr. Departmental Councilor,

I have taken note of your letter addressed to the Mayor , in which you express concern about the state of the Ladhof cemetery. Allow me to express my slight astonishment: a simple phone call to my office – or to myself – would have allowed you to quickly obtain all the necessary information. But I understand that a public letter sometimes provides more resonance than a direct and factual explanation.

Since 2016, the City of Colmar has adopted a zero-phytosanitary approach to the management of its cemeteries, in accordance with current environmental requirements . This responsible and sustainable method naturally changes the visual appearance of the sites, particularly in spring, when vegetation grows rapidly. This does not mean that maintenance is neglected – quite the contrary. Regular interventions are scheduled, and the one planned for early May had to be postponed due to heavy rains, to prevent wet grass from dirtying the graves.

"The vast majority of families concerned understand this."

These adjustments, dictated by technical and climatic constraints, are part of the serious and respectful management of memorial sites. The vast majority of the families concerned understand this.

We know, Mr. Departmental Councilor, that you will continue, with the regularity of a metronome, your quest for small local controversies until March 2026. Everyone has their own agenda: yours seems to be made up of well-oiled communication stunts, which, through repetition, end up tiring the people of Colmar, who are increasingly keen to see their elected officials work rather than gesticulate.
