Eschau. Alte Ill: redeveloped weir and addition of a fish pass

In the Eschau forest there is a small stream called the Alte Ill. A tributary of the Ill, it forms a branch of the river that connects the Ill and the Petite Ill through the woods after a course of 800 meters in the Eschau forest.

Until now, the level of the Alte Ill was regulated by a dam made of rock blocks upstream of the hydroelectric power plant. The site has recently been redeveloped to restore ecological continuity (as defined by the European Water Framework Directive) between the two rivers, the Ill and the Petite Ill.
