Extreme heat: up to 43 degrees Celsius on Monday

An "extreme heat event" and humidex readings above 40 await Quebecers on Monday and Tuesday, predicts Steven Flisfeder, meteorologist at Environment Canada.

On Monday, temperatures between 30 and 35°C, or 5 to 10°C above seasonal norms, are expected to extend to Montreal and western Estrie as far as Mauricie.
However, it is the perceived temperatures that are most eye-opening, as the humidex could rise to 45 in these regions, according to the special weather bulletin issued by the ministry late Friday afternoon.
"A warm and humid air mass will gradually enter Quebec starting Sunday and will fade away on Wednesday," it reads.
The Outaouais region should be spared a few degrees, since the forecast humidex would be between 35 and 40.
The trend is expected to continue on Tuesday, although the humidex is expected to be less oppressive than on Monday. Temperatures of 30 to 35°C, punctuated by a humidex of 35 to 38, are expected, especially in Montreal and its surrounding areas, reports the meteorologist, who points out that other areas of Quebec should be a little cooler.
The chances of thunderstorms occurring during these two days of extreme heat are possible, Flisfeder said, but not certain.
Quebec is expected to return to seasonal norms starting Wednesday, with temperatures around 25°C expected.
"You have to be sure to drink plenty of water, not only [...] on Monday and Tuesday, but also [...] all summer long," the meteorologist said.
