Tonneins: plastic, at the center of our lives... and an evening debate at the Rex

Tonneins: plastic, at the center of our lives... and an evening debate at the Rex

Based on a traveling project started in 2021, a day combining youth workshops, film and debate is planned for Wednesday, June 25, at Place Zoppola and at the Rex, to raise awareness of the place of plastic in our lives.

Trying to find everyday solutions to do without plastic, by appealing to all ages and making it fun, interactive and "as horizontal as possible": these are the missions that Harmonie mutuelle, Amicale laïque, Rex, Val de Garonne Agglomération and the City of Tonneins have set themselves.

To this end, multiple actions were deployed and numerous stakeholders were involved, in order to follow up on the project entitled "Le Tic du plastoc", born in Libourne. With the continued support of the artist Odile Durrousseau , who works in schools, nursing homes and medical-educational institutes. "I like to be alongside children and adult citizens to approach the ecological subject through a fun way. This often helps to raise awareness among the citizens of tomorrow."

When the planet vomits plastic

With the support of the Amicale laïque, which finds in the project an echo of its civic values and active pedagogy, "it intervened in the second half of 2025, in leisure centers, after-school activities, and youth spaces," explains the director, Wilfried Cluchier. This project is also part of the ecological transition led by the Agglo.

Together, they created a 3.40-meter diameter sphere representing the Earth, as well as four totems. They will be adorned with plastic objects, collected in advance by leisure centers, to represent a planet that is literally vomiting plastic, due to its omnipresence. An inauguration of these creations, placed in Zoppola Square, is planned for Wednesday, June 25 at 6 p.m., before an evening of film, theater, conference, and debate at the Rex cinema.

Two experts to shed light on the debate

"We will be welcoming two experts in the field of plastics," explains Alain Mullard of Harmonie mutuelle: Nathalie Gontard, research director at INRAE and author of the book "Plastic the Great Excitement," and Charlotte Lebfevre, doctor of environmental sciences and member of the 4P Scienseas association . After screening the film "Animal" by Cyril Dion, they will provide scientific data on the place of plastic in our lives, its usefulness, its recycling , based on the idea that waste that we do not produce does not need to be recycled.

The debate will be moderated by local journalist Julien Leclerq. Béatrice Vidalie and Céline Boussié, deputy mayors, applauded the event, particularly the fact that it involves young people to integrate good practices as early as possible and reach out to parents. In addition, an after-the-scenes event is already planned at the Fazanis vocational high school for the start of the school year in September, to raise awareness among teenagers through theater.

In order to be able to illustrate the future, Harmonie mutuelle is always looking for an inspiring and innovative company in terms of waste sorting in the region, to showcase it.
