Forest fires: three departments in the south of France on red alert after this weekend's fires

Summer is upon us, and with it the risk of fires is increasing . Météo-France has placed three departments in the south of France – Aude, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Var – on red alert in its latest forest weather forecast, this Monday, July 7.

These maximum alerts come just days after the outbreak of major fires , the first of the season, in the affected departments. They involve a ban on access to forest areas.
The Pyrénées-Orientales, Hérault, Gard, Vaucluse and the whole of Corsica are on orange alert this Monday, meaning "high danger" . On Tuesday, the red alert will extend to Vaucluse and will no longer concern Aude.
The three fires brought under controlIn the Aude region, the fire started on Saturday by a burning car on the side of the A61 motorway was brought under control on Sunday evening after burning 430 hectares, we learned from the prefecture.
