Lons-le-Saunier. They were expected on Wednesday: will the bald ibises pass through the Lons airfield?

Guided by their foster mothers in microlights (ultralight motorized aircraft), around thirty northern bald ibises were supposed to stop at the Lons-Courlans airfield on their way to their first migration from Germany to Spain. Having left their last leg from Besançon to Thise, the birds did not follow. They are expected to be transported to Lons by road today.
Gilles Nicolle, president of the Lons-le-Saunier flying club, made the trip to the airfield for nothing yesterday morning. "The ibises took off from Besançon-Thise behind the microlights heading for Lons-Courlans. But once they crossed the Doubs, the birds turned around and returned to land at Thise," he says.
