Lorraine. Bald eagles in Moselle: a very fragile species, the survival of each individual counts

The survival of every bald eagle matters. This species of large fish eagle, which reappeared in France, in Moselle, in 2011, remains very fragile . There are only nine pairs recorded in the country capable of reproducing. "And they all come from Lindre!" explains Anthony Kohler, animal manager , holding the species' family tree. All hope rests on a major program to introduce young bald eagles into the natural environment at Lake Geneva. It will also provide the necessary genetic mixing. But the immediate priority is to support natural reproduction as best as possible.
A real catastrophe occurred on the night of June 7-8 near the Lindre pond. The historic southern Moselle pair gave birth to two young in the spring, after giving a few scares to the volunteers tasked with monitoring them throughout the winter.
