MAP. Forest fires: three departments placed on red alert this Monday

Six other departments are placed on orange alert: the two departments of Corsica, Vaucluse, Gard, Hérault and Pyrénées-Orientales.

Météo-France.

This alert was issued as France experienced its first major fires of the season this weekend, in Hérault and Gard.

On Tuesday, three departments will remain on high alert: Var, Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse, according to the forecasting agency.

Since the summer of 2023, a year after the massive fires in Gironde, Météo-France has been providing a forest weather forecast during the summer period.

"With the aim of fire prevention and so that everyone can adapt their behavior according to the foreseeable danger, the Météo des forêts indicates a level of danger of forest fires established from weather forecasts and the dryness of the vegetation," explains the forecasting organization.
