Meurthe-et-Moselle. Baslieux: Stop quads and motocross in the forest!

"Why do we feel drawn to the brightness of a flower, the hopping or singing of a bird, the buzzing of an insect?" asks Daniel Mulder, the mayor of Baslieux. "It's because we love nature . We feel close to the life that surrounds us, to all these riches that we know are threatened and that must not be destroyed," he adds.
But who are these people who claim to love nature and yet flout it ? "They disturb the natural tranquility that reigns in the forest, disrupt the behavior of wild animals, and harm the interactions between living beings, animals and plants, as well as their natural environment," notes the mayor. Before continuing: "Often, to justify themselves, the drivers of these machines retort that the forest is also disturbed by woodcutters, foresters, and hunters... We must not confuse necessary activity with leisure activity."

It's well known that noise causes stress in animals: they become alert. When the noise becomes too loud or too close, they become frightened and run away.
"Moreover, the summer season is the time for all the brooding and all the births for animals. For their survival, we must not disturb them," the chief magistrate reminds us. "However, we need the forest, because it is a unique living space for many living beings. It also welcomes us and allows us to discover and observe all the richness it contains. It thus constitutes a privileged place for observing nature. It offers us its beauty, its mystery."
The circulation of motorized vehicles off open roads constitutes a criminal offense that may fall under the Forestry Code (Article R331-3) or the Environmental Code (Article L362-1). The latter specifies: "In order to ensure the protection of natural areas, the circulation of motor vehicles is prohibited outside roads classified as public roads of the State, departments and municipalities, rural roads and private roads open to public circulation of motor vehicles. These offenses are punishable by law, which provides for the drawing up of reports.
