Nature. The Autun Museum is full of local natural history.

The geology rooms feature many Permian and Carboniferous fossils, collected from the rich mining basins of Montceau-les-Mines and Télots, near Autun. They reflect the local biodiversity from approximately 307 to 290 million years ago, including the largest amphibians of the time. Part of the collection corresponds to what has been used to define the “Autunian stratotype,” a geological stage.
