Saint-Étienne: Renovation of François Mitterrand Park: Should We Start with the Sign?

Saint-Étienne: Renovation of François Mitterrand Park: Should We Start with the Sign?

Six million euros have been allocated to the renovation of François Mitterrand Park. The goal: to transform the site into a veritable green lung by providing more fresh air for the people of Saint-Étienne. And adding an "r" to the former President of the Republic's name on the sign?

Transforming François Mitterrand Park into a veritable green lung is what the Saint-Étienne municipality wants. The city has decided to carry out major work, which is expected to last a year and a half, on the park's ten hectares.

This project, estimated to cost €6 million, plans to clear several entrances to make the park more visible and therefore more accessible. 450 trees and 350 shrubs will be planted, and François Mitterrand Park will have 2.5 hectares of lawn, with its paths also being landscaped. Tables, benches, and toilets will be installed.

In short, everything seems to be in place to transform the place into a pleasant living space where the people of Saint-Etienne can get a breath of fresh air. Speaking of fresh air, it would be a good idea for the City to correct François Mitterrand's name on the sign on Boulevard Jules-Janin, which indicates the direction to follow to get to the park.

An attentive resident of Saint-Étienne pointed out to us that the name of the former President of the Republic was in fact spelled with only one "r".

For a park that promises to have plenty of air tomorrow, that's not very serious...

When questioned, the City promised that the error would be corrected. "The Saint-Étienne Métropole road department will order a new sign with the correct spelling. Manufacturing this type of custom sign takes time, and installation should be planned for the start of the school year in September," the department told us.
