EU Energy Commissioner will soon present plan for phasing out Russian energy

EU Energy Commissioner will soon present plan for phasing out Russian energy

EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen, will in two weeks present a plan to phase out all Russian fossil energy, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a speech at the Energy Security Summit in London on Thursday.

“At the beginning of this decade, we were overly dependent on one energy supplier. Russia supplied 45% of our gas. 50% of our coal. And almost a third of our oil.”

“We must recognize that we were not sufficiently aware of the challenges that came with dependence on Russian energy. The risk of blackmail and price shocks, which became clear after the invasion of Ukraine,” said von der Leyen.

The EU Commission has announced that it will end the use of Russian fossil fuels by 2027 in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The plan, which will be presented by the energy commissioner, will show the way forward.
