Construction of the Sanpellegrino plant to optimize management of the Nossana spring begins.

Milan, September 22 (Adnkronos) – The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Nossana spring, the most important spring in the Province of Bergamo and one of the largest in Lombardy, took place today in the presence of authorities from the Lombardy Region, Enzo Poli, Mayor of Casnigo, Michel Beneventi, CEO of the Sanpellegrino Group, and Pierangelo Bertocchi, CEO of Uniacque.
Sanpellegrino, a leading company in the mineral water and soft drinks sector, is supporting the construction of the project with an investment of €11 million. Once completed, the project will be donated to Uniacque, the company that manages the integrated water service for the province of Bergamo, and will be used for the benefit of the community. The project is part of the Sanpellegrino Group's global approach, which involves targeted local actions and investments to protect water, a resource deeply rooted in the local area and its economic fabric. The Nossana project is part of a €40 million plan, launched in 2020, to protect watersheds and biodiversity and enhance the local communities in which it operates.
The Nossana spring management system was created to optimize water management and ensure a constant water supply to the Bergamo municipalities, even during particularly heavy rainfall or exceptional weather events that could impact its availability. This will avoid the need to activate additional wells to extract additional groundwater.
Construction of the new plant, which will be located within the municipality of Casnigo, is expected to be completed by 2026. The Nossana spring, which serves a catchment area of over 315,000 people, has a flow rate of approximately 800 liters per second. Thanks to the new plant, it will be able to handle approximately 430 liters per second, corresponding to a total annual volume of 3.8 million cubic meters, even during exceptional rainfall events. This will ensure the continuity of an essential service, contributing to the protection and enhancement of a precious resource for the area.
"Responsible and sustainable water management is an integral part of our DNA, which is why we are investing in projects that benefit not only our sites, but also the broader communities in which we operate," said Michel Beneventi, CEO of the Sanpellegrino Group. "The construction of the Nossana spring plant is part of a global project our Group is pursuing to regenerate the hydrological cycles of the communities where we operate, helping to combat the effects of climate change. In each community, we want to contribute to a shared commitment with local communities, leveraging existing experiences and developing innovative solutions. This project is an important step in this direction because it will optimize the management of spring water and ensure continuity of water supply even in particularly challenging weather conditions."
"We are convinced that the future of the water service also depends on the ability to build solid alliances between public and private entities, based on shared responsibility and the desire to generate shared value," said Pierangelo Bertocchi, CEO of Uniacque. "The laying of the first stone of this plant represents a concrete sign of how the collaboration between Sanpellegrino and Uniacque can translate into a real benefit for the community: an innovative infrastructure that will further improve water quality and strengthen management sustainability. I would like to thank Sanpellegrino for choosing to invest in a project that looks to the future of its citizens and future generations. When we talk about sustainability, we mean not only efficiency and process innovation, but also a commitment to protecting natural resources and providing citizens with long-lasting services. It is in this direction that we want to continue working: making the synergy between public and private a tool capable of protecting the most precious resource and building a future in which water remains a safe, accessible, and shared resource for all."
"We are delighted to host a public utility project like the Nossana spring plant in our municipality. This project will serve a significant portion of the Province of Bergamo, as this spring is one of the main sources of drinking water, supplying approximately 60% of our municipalities. The joint work of planners, the relevant municipal environmental, building, and urban planning committees, Sanpellegrino, and Uniacque will allow for the construction of a project that is perfectly integrated into the surrounding environment. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to Sanpellegrino and Uniacque for choosing our area for the construction of this plant. This project demonstrates how collaboration between the public and private sectors for a common goal can make a concrete contribution to the well-being of the community," said Enzo Poli, Mayor of the Municipality of Casnigo.
