Energy, Confindustria Alto Adriatico calls for realism on transition to save industry and families

Trieste, 5 June (Adnkronos) – The sustainability of the industrial system and families of Friuli Venezia Giulia requires a more pragmatic approach to the energy transition. These are the words of Michelangelo Agrusti, president of Confindustria Alto Adriatico, speaking this morning at the presentation of the ninth Territorial Sustainability Report of Friuli Venezia Giulia by A2A, held at the Hotel Savoia Excelsior in Trieste.

Agrusti expressed appreciation for A2A, calling it "a company that is dear to us", but immediately emphasized the need to balance environmental objectives with economic sustainability. "We must find a balance between the economic sustainability of families and continuing to be among the largest industrial and manufacturing systems," the President said. At the center of his speech was the question of the timing and methods of the energy transition.

Agrusti criticized the approach that sets unrealistic deadlines: "We have set a date, 2035, for all-electric. Yet we know it will be impossible." Attention then shifted to the continuity of energy supply, with particular regard to the difficulties encountered with hydroelectricity. The president of Confindustria Alto Adriatico then reopened the debate on nuclear fission as a solution for the future. "We are reflecting on nuclear energy: we don't know if fusion will be available, we know that fission is available. Do we want to think about it? We can't afford a kWh cost that is 70% higher than Germany. Rational choices are needed to guarantee the competitiveness of the Italian industrial and manufacturing system."
