Energy, Fvg: Fedriga aims at self-sufficiency for the future of the region, also investing in hydrogen

Trieste, 5 June (Adnkronos) – The energy transition and the pursuit of self-sufficiency in the energy field are two objectives for the future of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This was stated by the President of the Region, Massimiliano Fedriga, speaking during the presentation of the ninth Territorial Sustainability Report of Friuli Venezia Giulia by A2A.

"We need to address the energy transition and biogas can be a valid ally in this passage – said Fedriga.

The President then highlighted a crucial aspect for the country's energy security - The second step is how we can have, with today's and tomorrow's technologies, a European or at least Western self-sufficiency. If in the future we continue to hand over the development of energy production to third countries that could choose to stop supplies, I think we are not doing our country any good".

Fedriga called for a rational vision that overcomes current critical issues without sacrificing stability: "We must look at sustainability in a logical way, knowing that we also need social and economic sustainability, because environmental sustainability is not exclusive. When there was an energy peak, we tried to give stability to our families with self-production to reduce or have self-sufficiency in energy supply".

The President also reiterated the Region's commitment to hydrogen research: "We are investing in hydrogen research. It is not an energy of today, it is uneconomical at the moment and is used in some niches. But in the future it can be an important source and we cannot afford to stay behind and realize that there are energies only when they are marketable".

Finally, Fedriga underlined the role of synergies between public and private, citing A2A as an example: "Companies like A2A are fundamental for the territory: the Monfalcone power plant was born precisely as a synergy between public and private, accompanying the system. We move outside of ideological schemes, otherwise we risk doing damage to those we will hand over the territory to."
