A massacre is feared in Bali , Indonesia , where a ferry sank: at least four confirmed victims but there were more than 60 people on board. "The data relating to the ferry's load speak of 53 passengers and 12 crew members". 23 people were rescued from the water after the shipwreck . The causes of the accident are still to be ascertained, the search for the missing is still underway.

The KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya sank around 11:20 p.m. local time. It had just left the port of Ketapang, in the eastern part of Java, and was headed to Gilimanuk, on the island of Bali. Two-meter high waves, strong winds and currents greatly complicated the rescue effort.

Bali is the main tourist destination in Indonesia. That ferry was widely used by people who travel between the two islands by car. According to some Indonesian media, the ship reported engine problems shortly before sinking. Checks are currently underway to determine the exact number of passengers on board; the presence of foreign tourists on the vessel has not yet been confirmed.
