Eni Khazna | ESGnews

Khazna Data Centers , a global leader in hyperscale digital infrastructure, and Eni , an integrated energy company based in Italy, have signed a Head of Terms (HoT) for the establishment of a Joint Venture aimed at developing an AI Data Center Campus with a total IT capacity of 500 MW, at the Ferrera Erbognone site in Lombardy.

The project, whose development activities are already underway, is part of the strategic partnership between Italy and the United Arab Emirates launched in February 2025 and which aims to reach a total IT capacity of up to 1 GW in Italy.

The design of the AI Data Center Campus is based on scalable, high -performance computing ( HPC ), and energy-efficient infrastructure. These principles, shared with the participating institutions, will be the strategic drivers fueling Europe's digital future, driven by artificial intelligence. The Head of Terms represents a significant step forward in the Campus's implementation, detailing the key principles, roles, and governance structures of the Eni-Khazna Joint Venture, with the shared goal of accelerating development activities.

The agreement was signed by Hassan Alnaqbi , CEO of Khazna, and Guido Brusco , Chief Operating Officer Global Natural Resources and General Manager of Eni, in the presence of Reem Al Hashimi , Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates and Adolfo Urso , Minister of Business and Made in Italy.

“Together with Eni, we are building the infrastructure needed for exponential growth in AI, delivering the scalability, sustainability, and operational precision required by next-generation computing,” said Hassan Alnaqbi , CEO of Khazna Data Centers.

This initiative combines Khazna's expertise in advanced data center design and management with Eni's leadership in sustainable energy, laying the foundation for a resilient AI ecosystem in the heart of Europe. The Data Center Campus will be powered by " Blue Power " provided by Eni, a low-emission electricity source produced by a new, highly efficient natural gas-fired power plant designed to capture CO2 emissions and deliver them to the CCS hub in Ravenna. These distinctive features create an unprecedented synergy in Italy between decarbonized energy and data center development.

“With this partnership, Eni and Khazna are contributing to the creation of a world-class hyperscale infrastructure, strategic for Italy and Europe, providing their distinctive capabilities in innovation, energy sustainability and rapid time-to-market,” said Guido Brusco , Chief Operating Officer Global Natural Resources and General Manager of Eni.
