Hugo Morán claims that the cost budget has tripled since 2018.

Madrid, May 12 (EFE).- Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, stated in the Senate's Ecological Transition Committee that the budget for costs has tripled compared to what they inherited in 2018 and noted that "this is the line the government intends to follow."
"This government's aim is to substantially improve not only the figures we inherited, but also our own figures going forward," Morán replied when asked by Popular Party (PP) senator Francisco Javier Márquez about the reasons for the lack of implementation of definitive projects for coastal stabilization.
Márquez believes that coastal protection has not been "absolutely" promoted due to, in his opinion, the few projects implemented, "even though Next Generation funds are available to combat climate change."
In response, Morán stated that the government has adopted, without modifications, the Coastal Adaptation Strategy to Climate Change , drafted in 2017 by the previous administration.
"We accept it on its terms, and as the stretches of coastline that require intervention are approved, we execute the projects," the Secretary of State explained.
With "10,000 kilometers of coastline in our country, it's clear that there are many actions that need to be carried out," argued Morán, who mentioned some of those carried out in the province of Castellón, "one of the Spanish coastlines with the greatest problems of regression."
Among them, €6 million in Almenara and €4 million in Nules, which contribute to the total amount of investment in the Valencian coast since 2018 of around €100 million.
He also mentioned other projects in the province of Huelva , such as La Antilla, Islantilla, Lepe and Isla Cristina, worth 4 million euros, and Matalascañas, in Almonte, worth 6 million euros.
According to Morán, all of these projects represent a larger investment than had been made previously, which, "on these beaches, was zero," he responded.
Senator Márquez also addressed the complaints of Malaga municipalities such as Estepona, Marbella, and Rincón de la Victoria, which "are having to take on the ministry's responsibilities."
