The threat of microplastics. By (*) May.

The threat of microplastics. By (*) May.

According to UN data, seas and oceans harbor more than fifty trillion microplastic particles that currently pose a threat to marine ecosystems and also to human health because we ingest them through consumption of fish and seafood, salt, fruits and vegetables, and so on. However, they can also enter our bodies through water intake and even breathing. Some studies have found microplastics in blood samples, human feces, and even placental remains. An Irish chemist warned two years ago that each person swallows, on average, an amount of microplastics equivalent to a credit card each week. It's a silent source of pollution whose impact on the future of humanity remains unknown.
