6,000 trees and shrubs for the Hoeve van der Meulen manor farm

Herenboerderij Hoeve van der Meulen in 's-Heer Abtskerke is a cooperative where more than 200 families from the area produce vegetables, fruit, eggs and also meat for their own consumption. The farm was started in 2024 and is developing rapidly. The Herenboerderij received a budget from DELTA Energie for 6,000 (fruit) trees and shrubs as part of DELTA Energie's ambition to plant new trees and shrubs in Zeeland. Everything is now in the ground.

Ferry Koen is the senior product manager energy responsible for the nature projects that DELTA Energie supports. 'We support five Zeeland nature organisations every year with a financial contribution for a meaningful project. In addition, we want to make Zeeland even greener. That is why we are looking for opportunities to plant large numbers of trees and shrubs.' Because - for various reasons - hardly any new forest plots can be created, DELTA Energie is looking for other opportunities.

Ferry: 'When we came into contact with Herenboerderij Hoeve van der Meulen, we didn't need much time to think about it. Herenboerderij is a great and very professional initiative that proves how food production can also work. Their planting plan is an integral part of the farm. That has been well thought out. A great opportunity to contribute to a unique project at a unique location.'

Hoeve van der Meulen is a ^17th century farm surrounded by centuries-old and protected Zeeland landscape. The Het Zeeuwse Landschap Foundation, one of the Zeeland nature organisations of which DELTA Energie supports a project every year, is the owner. The Herenboerderij Hoeve van der Meulen cooperative leases a large part of the surrounding land and uses it to grow food and increase the natural values ​​in the area.

Just Hamming is a farmer and manager at Herenboerderij Hoeve van der Meulen. Hamming: 'We are of course very happy with the 6,000 trees and shrubs that were financed by DELTA Energie. That made the complete implementation of our planting plan possible in one go. All trees and shrubs could be planted this spring. In this way, the planting develops nicely and evenly across the entire farm.'
