TenneT and Gasunie are investing billions of euros in the infrastructure for hydrogen and electricity, based on assumptions about a rapid sustainability of the industry, which will also be maintained in its current form. However, the actual growth in the use of hydrogen and electricity is much more modest and fundamentally questionable in the long term.
Expensive partly unused infrastructure threatens, with subsequently insufficient new industrial connections to pay for these investments via grid tariffs. A high degree of wishful thinking threatens to lead to billions in stranded assets.
