Another European country refuses to cooperate with Russia's Gazprom

Another European country refuses to cooperate with Russia's Gazprom

The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) has decided to revoke the license of Moldovagaz JSC for the supply of natural gas to end users.

The obligation to provide other public services related to gas transmission and distribution within the country will also be canceled. Service provider responsibilities have been transferred to the state-owned Energocom.

These actions are related to the country's commitments to implement the European Union's third energy package, which eliminates the monopoly on the supply, transmission and wholesale distribution of energy resources, said Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Moldovagaz will want to operate on the Moldovan market, looking for its business niches, and is still interested in selling gas to Transnistria .

The Moldovan authorities' decision stems from a desire to deprive the Russian company Gazprom of its influence. Gazprom holds 50 percent plus one share of Moldovagaz JSC's share capital, while the government holds 35.33 percent, Transnistria 13.44 percent, and 1.23 percent belongs to minority shareholders.

A few years ago, the administration of the separatist Transnistria, inhabited by Russians, transferred its share in the administration and exercise of voting rights to Gazprom .
