The bridge that will replace the one that collapsed in Tocantins will be inaugurated on December 20th.

The project connects Aguiarnópolis (TO) and Estreito (MA); a collapse killed seventeen people last year.
During the COP 30 route, the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, made several announcements, including the date for the delivery of the new bridge in Estreito, Maranhão, which connects the state to Tocantins. According to him, the project will be inaugurated by December 20th, practically a year after the structure collapsed on December 22nd, 2024, killing seventeen people.
Today (6), the minister's caravan passed through Xambioá, in Tocantins, to monitor the work on the bridge over the Araguaia River, which connects the State to Pará. The project is over 2,000 meters long, and vehicle traffic there should be opened at the end of November.
“We will deliver the Xambioá bridge perhaps by the end of November, and we will deliver the Estreito bridge before December 20th of this year, so that we can open traffic there, because it is a very important integration for all those surrounding cities that also had their highways improved by the federal government, because they became alternative routes. Delivering the bridge restores normality. Few people believed that this bridge would be delivered in one year,” declared Renan Filho.
On Wednesday, the 5th, the minister authorized the preparation of technical, economic, and environmental feasibility studies for the federalization of highway TO-080, between Paraíso do Tocantins and Palmas. According to him, with the possible absorption of the road by the federal government, improvements and expansion of the capacity of the approximately 80-kilometer stretch between the two cities could be prioritized in the future. The highway forms the logistical axis between BR-010 and BR-153.
“The TO-080 is an important link for transporting national production, but it is a single-lane state highway. We have been working on a plan to improve the flow of light and heavy vehicles along the route, and to position Tocantins as a strategic connection point in the country's logistics,” added the minister.
Renan Filho argues that the federalization of the TO-080 highway will strengthen regional economic development by modernizing the integration between the BR-010/TO highway, which crosses four states and passes through thriving agribusiness zones, and the BR-153/TO highway, which is also strategic for livestock and agriculture and connects to Pará and Rio Grande do Sul.
The minister, throughout the trip that departed from Brasília (DF) on Tuesday, the 4th, towards Belém (PA) along the COP 30 Route, has been highlighting the initiatives adopted to provide more safety to road users, as well as the public policies implemented to make the country's transport infrastructure more sustainable.
