The State will contract an environmental management plan for the Port of Ilhéus

A R$731,000 contract will be signed without bidding while Fiol continues with work halted and Porto Sul does not advance.
The government of Bahia will hire, through a waiver of bidding, a specialized company to develop an environmental management plan for the Port of Ilhéus. The information was released this Tuesday (8) by the Bahia Notícias portal.
According to the publication, the contract, worth R$731,800, will last six months and aims to reinforce the environmental suitability of the terminal, which is managed by the Bahia State Docks Company (Codeba).
Operating since 1971, the port is located in Ponta do Malhado and has the capacity to handle approximately one million tons of cargo per year, including products such as soybeans, corn, and almonds. The terminal also receives cruise ships, especially during peak season.
Despite its historical and economic importance, the port's current infrastructure is considered limited, especially given the expected growth in cargo flow with the future operation of the West-East Integration Railway (FIOL). The most advanced section of the project, between Caetité and Ilhéus (FIOL 1), is approximately 75% complete, but construction remains halted.
Porto Sul, a terminal designed to serve Fiol and handle up to 40 million tons per year, also in Ilhéus, has yet to materialize. So far, only access work, construction sites, and a bridge over the Almada River have been completed.
Once completed, Fiol will connect Ilhéus to Figueirópolis, Tocantins, where it will connect to the North-South Railway. In addition to Fiol 1, the project includes two other sections: Fiol 2, between Caetité and Barreiras, scheduled for completion in 2027; and Fiol 3, from Barreiras to Figueirópolis, which is awaiting installation permits.
