Transbrasa: successful family management for 51 years

Present in Santos for 51 years, the company advances with socio-environmental commitments
According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 90% of businesses in Brazil are family-owned. They account for more than half of the country's GDP and employ 75% of the Brazilian workforce. Companies like Transbrasa, a national leader in logistics solutions, have been operating in the Santos region for 51 years.
Since 1973, Transbrasa has established itself as a strategic hub for import, export, cargo transportation, storage, and distribution. Today, with over 370 direct employees, the company drives the regional economy, creates jobs, trains workers, and fosters supply chains.
Its history is closely linked to that of its founder, Bayard Umbuzeiro Filho, who turned 85 this Friday (19). "Transbrasa was born from a dream of undertaking and contributing to the development of Santos. Today, seeing how far we have come, I feel proud to know that we have been part of the lives of thousands of people, directly impacting the families of each worker and customer," he says.
With values firmly rooted in people's well-being, cargo handling and storage are handled with special care and personalized service. "Our services are designed to meet specific needs, offering end-to-end logistics solutions," explains Bayard Umbuzeiro Neto, Bayard's son and CEO.
From father to son, Transbrasa has constantly reinvented itself, continually investing in modernizing its structure and implementing new technologies. "Innovation is one of our pillars. The adoption of automation technologies and digitalized processes ensures greater efficiency and reliability in operations, strengthening competitiveness and adding value to customers," explains the director.
Another concern is its socio-environmental commitment. The company implements practices to reduce its carbon footprint, optimize routes, manage waste, and support environmental education projects. In 2024, Transbrasa earned the Pro-Clima Gold seal, an initiative of the Brazilian Alliance for Decarbonization of Ports (ABDP).
The goal now, according to Human Resources Director Andrea Umbuzeiro, is to achieve the Diamond Seal. " Our environmental programs continue to evolve, and our goal for 2025 is to achieve the highest seal offered by the Alliance, demonstrating the leadership and innovation that are hallmarks of Transbrasa's history," she emphasizes.
Among the actions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint are the use of biofuel, the re-refining of diesel oil, the waste control and management plan and the co-processing of wood.
"We want to grow responsibly, maintaining a balance between economic efficiency and social and environmental responsibility. This is the legacy we want to leave for future generations," adds CEO Bayard Neto.
