Rosneft Learns to Produce Synthetic Oil Using GTL Technology

Rosneft has developed its own technology for producing synthetic oil that does not contain sulfur, the company's head Igor Sechin said.

Speaking at the Energy Session of SPIEF-2025, he showed a bottle of clear liquid and urged those gathered not to smoke while examining it.

"I want to show you the result of the work done. In front of you is synthetic oil, consisting of the purest hydrocarbon molecules, with zero sulfur content," he said.

As I. Sechin explained in his report, we are talking about the development of catalysts throughout the entire GTL production chain.

"All stages of the technological process are covered by the corresponding patents. The implementation of this technology in Taimyr is planned," he said.
