CHP's Gürer: "Agricultural Frost and Drought Have Crippled Producers"

CHP Niğde Deputy and Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Commission Member Ömer Fethi Gürer drew attention to the problems faced by producers and said that both natural disasters and the wrong policies of the political power have left producers helpless.
Gürer stated that the drought following the agricultural frost last April had severely impacted producers, saying, "Even farmers registered with TARSİM, the Farmer Registration System, have still not been paid their receivables. They say they won't be paid until November. Therefore, producers are in a miserable state."
“Producers Cannot Maintain Their Gardens”Gürer emphasized that the orchards were completely abandoned, saying, "There's not a single crop on the branch. This producer would ultimately have to maintain his orchard, spray pesticides, fertilize, and prune. But due to lack of money, he couldn't do any of these things. The government has paved the way for problems with orchard crops next year."
Gürer also highlighted the significant decline in fruit production in Türkiye, saying, "The country used to grow 28 million tons of fruit. Estimates suggest this figure has dropped to 21 million tons. There is a 7 million-ton crop loss. But the government is unaware of the problems faced by producers."
Farmers Cannot Pay Their DebtsCHP member Gürer, who stated that producers are not receiving support despite the numerous difficulties they face, called on the government to take urgent action. He stated that farmers' receivables must be paid to ensure the continuity of agricultural production, and emphasized that failure to cover production costs poses a serious threat to the coming year.
Gürer stated that farmers' loan debt to banks exceeds one trillion Turkish Lira, saying, "Farmers who cannot pay their debts are being forced to lose their land and tractors through enforcement proceedings. Enforcement proceedings should be halted, and debts should be deferred interest-free for at least three years. Losses should also be covered immediately." He noted that he has received numerous complaints about TARSİM insurance claims being made against farmers, and that farmers are being victimized in this regard.
