Collaboration Between Türkiye and Bulgaria in Nuclear Energy

Turkey and Bulgaria have taken a strategic step in the field of nuclear energy and joined forces in Nuclear Energy. The Nuclear Industry Association (NSD) and the Bulgarian Atomic Forum (BULATOM) signed a memorandum of understanding within the scope of the 11th Nuclear Power Plants Summit – NPPES . The agreement aims to support regional energy integration and encourage the sharing of information and projects between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy .
The Nuclear Energy Power Union stands out with its goal of joint action, especially in technical information exchange , training , human resource development and small modular reactor (SMR) investments. NSD President Alikaan Çiftçi and BULATOM Board Member Petar Manchev attended the signing ceremony.

NSD President Alikaan Çiftçi made the following assessment regarding the agreement:
“This cooperation we have established with our neighbor Bulgaria in nuclear energy will not only strengthen bilateral relations but also regional energy security . Bulgaria, like Turkey, sees nuclear energy as strategic in reducing carbon emissions and ensuring energy supply security . We believe that this cooperation will contribute to sustainable development in our region by turning into joint projects.”
Petar Manchev, Member of the Board of Directors of BULATOM , noted the importance of cooperation on a regional scale:
“This agreement enables industrial representatives from both countries to produce projects together. Nuclear energy is the key to a clean and sustainable transformation for our region located between Europe and Asia. The joint projects we will develop with Turkey will set an example not only for both countries but also for neighboring regions.”
The 11th Nuclear Power Plants Summit (NPPES) was organized in Istanbul with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and in cooperation with the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) and the Nuclear Industry Association (NSD) . The summit is Turkey's first and only nuclear energy event and brings together nuclear industry representatives in the region.
