Drilling ship capsizes in Gulf of Suez, eastern Egypt

In a written statement made by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, it was stated that information was received from the Offshore Shukheir Oil Company (OSOCO) that the drilling vessel named “Adam Marine 12” capsized in the Jabal Zeit region.

The statement said that Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Labor Muhammed Jubran set out to the scene of the accident with a team from each ministries to assess the situation on site, monitor rescue efforts and evaluate the emergency measures taken for the incident.

In the statement of the Ministry, it was stated that the developments were being followed instantly in coordination with the relevant authorities and affiliated companies in the region and the necessary measures were being taken.

In a statement made on the social media account of the Egyptian Ministry of Health, it was noted that 4 people lost their lives and 22 people were rescued with injuries as a result of a drilling ship capsizing in the Gulf of Suez.

It was reported that after the incident was reported, 20 ambulances were directed to the scene and 4 ambulances were directed to El-Gouna Airport.

The ministry shared that the Red Sea Health Directorate and all hospitals have been put on alert, that they are closely monitoring the situation at the scene, and that search and rescue efforts are continuing.

Red Sea Governor Amr Hanefi also reported that the search for the three missing people continues.

Al-Shorouk newspaper reported that the drilling ship capsized while being towed to a new work site near the Ashrafiya platform.
