Marmara, Thrace and Aegean regions are experiencing serious water shortages.

Wrong water policies, unplanned urbanization, mining activities, and the climate crisis are driving Turkey into drought. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Demir of Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) stated that there are serious water shortages in the Marmara , Thrace , and Aegean regions.
Demir stated that water problems will seriously worsen unless necessary measures are taken, saying, "Due to the impact of ongoing global climate change, we have been experiencing months of drought and irregular rainfall in our country. This has caused significant reductions in water resources in many of our cities during the summer months and has led to water shortages in some. Most recently, the water level in dams in Bursa has dropped to almost zero. This not only exacerbates water shortages but also negatively impacts people's lives, health, and well-being."
Demir stated that he was concerned about the possibility of drought throughout the country during the winter months and called on the authorities to take action.
