NIATR Delegation Visited Akkuyu NPP

AKKUYU NUCLEAR INC. executives and NIATR officials discussed the possibilities for Turkish industrialists to participate in the project.
September 16, 2025, Büyükeceli, Mersin, Turkey. – A delegation from the Turkish Nuclear Industry Association (NIATR), led by Alikaan Çiftçi, visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site, built by Rosatom, the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation.

Sergei Butckikh, General Manager of AKKUYU NUCLEAR INC., presented the project to the delegation and answered questions from NIATR members. The parties discussed cooperation opportunities to increase the participation of Turkish suppliers in the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project.
Sergei Butckikh, General Manager of AKKUYU NUCLEAR A.Ş., said, “ We are open to dialogue with all stakeholders in the emerging high-tech sector in Turkey. The number of Turkish suppliers for Akkuyu NPP has already surpassed 2,000, and the localization rate set in the initial stages of the project has almost doubled. We are continuously exploring opportunities to increase the share of local production to ensure the long-term and sustainable development of the project. Collaboration with NIATR and its members will contribute to achieving these goals and open up new perspectives for Turkish manufacturers to participate in the project .”
Members of the delegation toured the construction site of Power Unit 1 of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). They visited Türkiye's first training center, where they spoke with Turkish engineers receiving training in the plant's full-scale control room simulator. NIATR representatives also visited the general facility desalination complex, which will provide desalinated water for the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant's operational and fire safety systems, and received information from plant officials.
NIATR President Alikaan Çiftçi said, " The visit to the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant was very productive. We received updates on the project. We discussed the Turkish industry's participation and cooperation opportunities to expand local production by incorporating new manufacturers. Thanks to the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project, we see great potential for the development of Turkey's nuclear industry ."
