Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu officially announced that the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) has started generating its own electricity by commissioning solar power plants.

FIRST PHASE: 4 POWER PLANTS ARE OPERATING

Minister Uraloğlu stated that four power plants, namely Balıkesir Terminal, Selçuk, Basmane Terminal and Gaziantep TCDD Taşlıca Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Workshop, have become operational and that these facilities will save 1.5 billion liras every year.

318 MILLION KILOWATT PRODUCTION TARGET

Uraloğlu stated that with the completion of the ongoing power plants, 318,525,125 kilowatts of electricity will be produced annually, and that the generated energy will meet the needs of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) while the excess will be transferred to the grid.

GREEN ENERGY ERA IN RAILWAYS

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that renewable energy investments contribute to the country's energy transformation process, saying, "Our railways continue to be pioneers not only in transportation but also in environmentally friendly energy policies."

NEW LAND SPP PROJECTS ARE COMING

Uraloğlu stated that the construction of three new solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 200 megawatts is ongoing in Ankara-Kocahacılı, Sivas-Sarıdemir and Kahramanmaraş-Narlı, and that when the projects are completed, 25 percent of TCDD's electricity needs will be met by renewable energy.

Solar power plants are being installed on Marmaray rooftops

Minister Uraloğlu announced that solar panels with a total capacity of 10.13 megawatts will be installed on the roofs of 26 Marmaray stops. He explained that upon completion, the project will meet 60 percent of Marmaray's energy needs.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE 2053 NET ZERO TARGET

Uraloğlu stated that TCDD will continue to increase its renewable energy investments, saying, "In the medium term, we aim to meet 35 percent of our electricity needs from renewable sources. These investments will make a strong contribution to the 2053 Net Zero Emissions target."
