The 11th Nuclear Power Plants Summit-NPPES, organized in Istanbul with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, in cooperation with the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) and the Nuclear Industry Association (NSD), with Anadolu Agency as the Global Communications Partner, brought together 212 companies and 1,400 sector representatives.

According to the statement made by NPPES Fair Organization, the summit held on July 1-2 brought together leading representatives of the nuclear industry from Russia, China, South Korea, Germany, France, England, Slovenia, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic in Istanbul.

At the summit, the critical importance of nuclear energy in line with zero carbon targets was once again emphasized, at a time when artificial intelligence is transforming the global ecosystem and energy demand is rapidly increasing.

At the summit, which has paved the way for many strategic collaborations to date, 275 new collaboration meetings were held this year.

The two-day event featured 6 sessions and 9 special presentations. Current issues in the nuclear energy sector were addressed by experts in the field. The latest technologies in the sector were introduced at the stand areas.

Two important agreements were signed at the summit

During the summit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between NSD and the Bulgarian Atomic Forum (BULATOM) to strengthen regional nuclear energy cooperation.

ThorAtom, Türkiye's only private company developing 4th generation nuclear reactors, and NAAREA, a French company operating in the field of sustainable nuclear energy, have signed a strategic cooperation to jointly develop molten salt reactor technology.

ASO Board of Directors Chairman Seyit Ardıç, whose views were included in the statement, drew attention to the importance of nuclear energy in combating climate change and energy security, and noted the following:

“As a country, we aim to increase our energy independence and strengthen our economy with our investments in nuclear energy. The Nuclear Power Plants Fair and Summit brings together leaders, experts and stakeholders in the nuclear energy sector and offers an ideal platform to discuss the latest developments, innovations and opportunities in the sector. The knowledge and experiences shared here make significant contributions to our country’s journey in the field of nuclear energy. In addition, this fair and summit are one of the most concrete platforms we have implemented for the integration of our domestic industry into the field of nuclear energy, its more active role in the supply chain and the transfer of technology.”

NSD President Alikaan Çiftçi also pointed out the regional impact of Türkiye's determined stance in the nuclear field and made the following statements:

“The Nuclear Power Plants Summit brings together the world’s major nuclear energy technology manufacturers with our local industrialists in Istanbul. Our Turkish industrialists are getting to know the opportunities in this value-added industry and are holding talks for collaborations. This year, the summit discussed the strategic role of nuclear energy in meeting the rapidly increasing energy demand in the age of artificial intelligence with local and clean resources. In addition to traditional nuclear investments, it was emphasized that small modular reactors will take their place in Türkiye’s energy mix in the next 10 years with their fast, low-cost and flexible installation advantages. The countries in the region that will take new steps in nuclear energy are also taking Türkiye’s stable and visionary steps in this field as an example.”
