TİP Spokesperson Kadıgil: “They Killed the Olives So That Companies Could Earn More”

TİP Spokesperson Kadıgil: “They Killed the Olives So That Companies Could Earn More”

Turkish Workers' Party (TİP) Spokesperson Sera Kadigil commemorated Zehra Yıldırım, who was known for her struggle against the cutting down of olive trees in the land expropriated for mining in the Akbelen area of the İkizköy Neighborhood of Muğla and who passed away yesterday.

Sera Kadıgil shared the following on social media, commemorating the late Zehra Yıldırım:

"Look, this is what they call law in Türkiye. This is what they call 'respect for the law, for court decisions.' This is the country where they go to bed and rave about 'no one is above the law.' Akbelen lost Mother Zehra yesterday. Today, two companies broke into the olive trees she devoted her life to so she could make more money.

They were already entering despite the courts' precautionary measures. Seeing that dealing with the courts was tiring, they convened Parliament, raised their hands, then lowered their hands. They simply passed the directives of a company hostile to olives, trees, soil, animals, humans, and water, calling it a "law."

Now, accompanied by the gendarmerie, they're following company instructions. If you ask me, these bulldozers are "legally compliant," but these people who shield their century-old trees, those who stand against the state and its laws, are "terrorists!"
