1,400 new charging points to be installed across 13 EU countries

A consortium led by the Germany-based energy group E.ON has secured 45 million euros in EU funding to expand the charging infrastructure for electric cars and commercial vehicles.
The EU recently selected 39 innovative projects to support alternative fuel infrastructure development. Among them is the DRIVE-E project, led by E.ON in partnership with Slovak energy company ZSE and charging infrastructure company Eldrive. The initiative aims to install 1,400 new public charging points across 13 EU countries by the end of 2027, along key trans-European freight corridors, serving passenger cars as well as light and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
As part of the project, 430 dedicated truck charging points will be installed, each with a minimum capacity of 350 kilowatts (kW). Mixed-use charging stations, serving both passenger cars and trucks, will also be developed.
Beyond adding new charging points, DRIVE-E will also complement and expand the existing network, particularly in areas where charging options for light commercial vehicles are currently lacking.
In total, more than 250 locations across Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia will benefit from the project.
