The solar power plant, with a planned capacity of 150MW, is a significant move towards achieving Bahrain’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2060.

It underscores the national efforts to promote environmental sustainability and expand renewable energy utilisation.

A consortium comprising international and local consultancy companies has been appointed to manage the project.

KPMG Fakhro will act as financial advisor, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff as technical advisor and Trowers & Hamlins as legal advisor. This team will oversee the project in line with the release of the tender.

The solar power plant project is a pivotal step in enhancing Bahrain’s sustainable energy infrastructure.

It also aims to foster greater collaboration with the private sector, increasing the renewable energy share in the national energy mix.

The solar facility, spanning 1.2 square kilometres, will be situated near Bilaj Al Jazayer in southern Bahrain.

It will feature advanced solar technology to meet the Kingdom’s escalating energy demands and ensure long-term energy security.

The plant is expected to supply electricity to 6,300 homes, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions by more than 100,000t per year.

This aligns with Bahrain’s sustainability objectives and supports the development of future infrastructure.
