ČEZ Distribuce expanded solar capacity significantly in 2025

In the first nine months of 2025, the largest Czech electricity distributor, ČEZ Distribuce, connected 13,575 solar power plants to its network, with a total installed capacity of 383.5 megawatt (MW), announced the company. Over 75 per cent of these were micro-sources and more than 87 per cent of these installations are equipped with battery storage, offering a storage capacity of 182,9 megawatt-hours (MWh).
For comparison, in the same period of 2024, ČEZ Distribuce connected 22,764 solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 473.9 MW. Currently, a total of 147,400 solar power plants with an installed capacity of 2,930.5 MW are connected to the ČEZ Distribuce network. The company also announced that it will invest 19.2 billion koruna (790 million euros) in upgrading and expanding its distribution system in 2025, with funds primarily allocated to meeting the demands of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems.
“We are continuously implementing investment projects to develop, renew, and strengthen the distribution system to meet our customers’ demands, particularly for renewable energy sources,” said Martin Zmelík, CEO of ČEZ Distribuce. “This year, we also expect an increased number of applications for connecting energy storage devices, especially battery storage, and a significant portion of funds will be allocated to the digitalisation and automation of our distribution network.”
