Czechia: huge boom in e-mobility

The growth of electromobility in Czechia continued rapidly in the first quarter of this year. This is confirmed by the statistics on the energy that electric car drivers consumed at the stands of the two largest Czech public charging networks.
Massive growth at the two largest operatorsIn the first three months of the year, drivers have charged more than 3 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of electricity from ČEZ, which is 70 per cent more year-on-year. Pražská energetika (PRE) sold 2.45 GWh of electricity at its charging station, which is a 45 per cent growth compared to the first quarter of the previous year. These two companies are the largest operators of electric vehicle charging points, amounting to around 40 and 20 per cent market share, respectively.
More cars, faster chargingThe average consumption per charging transaction also increased by 10-11 per cent at both companies. “The number of new models of electric cars with larger battery capacities and longer ranges is growing on Czech roads,” Martin Schejbal, manager of the charging service department of ČEZ, explained the background. The data also shows that people prefer shorter charging times, therefore, companies are increasing the number of ultra-fast charging stations.
“This year alone, over 5,500 purely electric cars have been registered in Czechia so far, plus more than 2,700 plug-in hybrid cars. In total, there are over 66,500 chargeable passenger cars on domestic roads,” Libor Hladík, Head of the E-Mobility Section at PRE, highlighted.
