European Industrial Alliance on SMRs unveils Strategic Action Plan

The European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) adopted its first Strategic Action Plan at their second General Assembly. The plan provides a detailed overview of activities for the next five years to support the development, demonstration and deployment of SMRs in Europe by the early 2030s.
It outlines ten specific actions to address key challenges such as market demand beyond electricity production, revitalising the supply chain, promoting R&D and skills development, unlocking financial opportunities and simplifying regulations. It also covers financing, public engagement, fuel and waste management, and safety and security, which are essential for SMR development.
Established in February 2024, the Alliance unites more than 350 SMR stakeholders, including industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers, under a shared vision. Key partners include the European Commission, Nucleareurope, and the Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform (SNETP), which support projects and implement actions outlined in the Strategic Action Plan. A governing board guides the Alliance, giving strategic advice and making important decisions.
The Alliance is committed to working closely with members, EU institutions, and international organisations to ensure the timely and successful deployment of SMRs in Europe.
