India sets eyes on 10% of global green hydrogen demand

India aims to capture nearly 10% of global green hydrogen demand that is expected to excee d 100 million metric tonnes by 2030, minister of state for power and new and renewable energy Shripad Naik said on Tuesday. Substantial progress has been made towards green hydrogen production targets with 862,000 tonnes per year of production capacity already awarded to 19 companies under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, Naik said at the FICCI Green Hydrogen Summit 2025.The government has also awarded 3,000 MW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity to 15 companies."We want to make India not only a major producer but also a global hub for green hydrogen export,' Naik said, outlining the country's strategy to position itself as a reliable exporter.Global green and clean hydrogen market is making headway led by lowering prices, industry executives said.'In one of the global tenders, green has come out cheaper than blue," Vipul Tuli, chair of FICCI's Renewable Energy CEOs Committee and Sembcorp India, said. "Please understand the implications of that - it's a very significant development." The EU demonstrated strong support for bilateral cooperation in the sector. Dr Ewa Suwara, Charge d'affaires of the EU delegation to India, announced plans for enhanced collaboration following the second India-EU Green Hydrogen Forum held in Rotterdam in May 2025.
