MSEDCL, GEAPP partner to use AI and storage tech for smarter power grid management

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) is planning to improve efficiency of power infrastructure via digitisation, advanced analytics and better integration of renewable energy resources.

To move forward with the plan, it signed a statement of intent with Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) for the adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning for monitoring, load management and demand forecasting.

The collaboration will include the integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) to stabilise supply, optimize peak demand and manage distributed renewable energy assets. The use of advanced simulation and analytics tools contributes to the scalability of grid infrastructure.Lokesh Chandra, chairman and managing director, MSEDCL, said in a statement: "By working with the alliance, we aim to adopt advanced digital technologies that will improve grid performance and enable faster renewable energy integration to serve consumers more efficiently."Founded in 2021 by The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation and Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP works towards social and environmental causes through public-private partnerships.
