Ola enters ₹1 lakh crore energy storage market with launch of Ola Shakti


The company said in a statement that the move marked its expansion beyond the automotive sector, positioning it in the ₹1 lakh crore BESS market projected to grow to over ₹3 lakh crore by 2030.
Built at the company’s Gigafactory and powered by its 4680 Bharat Cells, Ola Shakti is designed, engineered and manufactured in India. It will be available in four configurations — 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh and 9.1 kWh — priced at ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999 and ₹1,59,999, respectively, for the first 10,000 units. Reservations begin at ₹999, with deliveries set to start on Makar Sankranti 2026.
Ola expects its annual Gigafactory consumption for the BESS market to scale up to 5 GWh in the next few years, surpassing its automotive segment consumption.Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and MD of Ola Electric, said, “India doesn't face an energy shortage; it faces an energy storage opportunity. Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently.”Aggarwal added that the company would leverage its 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capabilities and nationwide distribution network to scale operations without additional capital or R&D investments.The Ola Shakti system is built using the 4680 Bharat Cell technology and is designed to deliver efficiency of up to 98 per cent. It operates across an input voltage range of 120V–290V and has zero running and maintenance costs. The product is weatherproof, with IP67-rated batteries tested for dust, water and monsoon conditions.It offers instant changeover during power cuts and supports appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, and farm pumps. Charging time is up to two hours, and it can provide backup of 1.5 hours on full load.Through the Ola app, users can monitor battery status, control energy flow and access features such as time-of-day scheduling, remote diagnostics, software updates and backup prioritisation.According to the company, Ola Shakti represents the first step in its energy storage roadmap, which will expand from residential use to grid-scale deployments.
