PM Surya Ghar scheme: 10 Mandya villages selected for Model Solar Village contest

Mysuru: Ten villages in Mandya district have been selected for the Model Solar Village competition under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. The selected villages are Pandavapura taluk: Kennalu, Gummanahalli; Srirangapatna taluk: Belagola, Arakere; Mandya taluk: Keelar, Santekasalagere; Maddur taluk: Besagarahalli, Kesturu; and Malavalli Taluk: Belakavadi, Kirugavalu. A task force committee will be formed in each village under the guidance of the respective panchayat development officer (PDO).

The committees will implement incentive programmes to encourage active participation in the competition. Households and institutional buildings in the selected villages will be motivated to install rooftop solar systems. Awareness campaigns will promote the adoption of solar pumpsets for farmers under the KUSUM-B scheme. The village demonstrating the highest adoption of renewable energy will be declared the Model Solar Village and receive an incentive grant of Rs 1 crore from MNRE.

A district-level committee has been established for the implementation of the scheme in Mandya, chaired by the deputy commissioner, with members including the ZP panchayat CEO, tahsildars, CESC engineers, and PDOs.
