SEL Introduces the LINAM UGFI Underground Fault Indicator

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories recently announced the release of the LINAM UGFI Underground Fault Indicator, a product of the E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing facility in Lake Zurich, Illinois. The innovative device offers several key features that help distribution system operators reduce the duration of outages by streamlining underground fault locating.
The LINAM UGFI is rugged, submersible, and battery-free, so it can be deployed with confidence in harsh environments, such as underground vaults. With a universal clamp that allows installation with a single hot stick and the option to use the self-adjusting AutoRANGER algorithm or a wide range of fixed trip threshold options, the LINAM UGFI can be applied in underground and pad-mounted applications throughout the distribution system. Its proprietary adjacent-phase immunity technology prevents false trips by actively rejecting magnetic fields from nearby cables.
“We are excited to build on the legacy of E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing, where fault indicators were pioneered,” said Bill Glennon, senior engineering director. “With the LINAM UGFI, we are introducing an extremely easy-to-use, rugged and innovative solution that also solves the long-standing challenge of adjacent-phase interference.”
With a high-visibility display, several remote display options, and an optional output contact that can send the fault status through a remote terminal unit to supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, the LINAM UGFI can be deployed for practically any underground fault-indicating application. The device also meets and exceeds IEEE 495 testing standards.
E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing, a division of SEL, specializes in the design and production of fault indicators. Founded in 1949 by Edmund O. Schweitzer Jr., the brand has a longstanding reputation for innovation and excellence in the electrical engineering industry and continues to uphold the legacy of its founder by delivering reliable and advanced solutions that enhance the safety, reliability and efficiency of power systems worldwide.
