TotalEnergies sells half of Polska Grupa Biogazowa

Norwegian private equity company, HitecVision, has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB) from TotalEnergies, according to PGB. This move transforms Poland’s leading biogas company into a joint venture equally shared by TotalEnergies and HitecVision. The company converts waste into electricity and heat through cogeneration, as well as into biologically valuable fertiliser.
PGB was established in 2007 and operates 21 biogas plants, producing 500 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity and heat annually. This production capacity means a market share of 15 per cent in Poland.
PGB was fully acquired by the multinational integrated energy company, TotalEnergies, in 2023. This partial sale aligns with TotalEnergies’ strategy to divest renewable assets to investment partners, with HitecVision bringing capital and expertise to help PGB’s ambition to quadruple its capacity to 2 terawatt-hours per year by 2030.
“I am delighted with this significant step, which will enable Polska Grupa Biogazowa to realise our plans for increasing energy production,” said Łukasz Semeniuk, President of PGB. “Combining the expertise of a global leader in energy transition with the capital and know-how of one of Europe’s top renewable energy investors will greatly accelerate the development of our biogas and biomethane projects in Poland.”
