Total and VSB working together for the expansion of renewables

The French energy group Total Energies has now completed its full acquisition of the VSB Group, sending a strong signal for the accelerated expansion of renewable energies in Europe. Following the agreement signed in December 2024 with the previous majority shareholder, Partners Group, and the VSB founder, the transaction is now complete – subject to final approval from the competition authorities. With the integration of the VSB Group, one of Europe's leading developers of wind energy, photovoltaics, and battery storage, Total Energies is strengthening its position as a key player in the renewable energy market. The VSB Group contributes a project pipeline of over 18 gigawatts and more than 475 megawatts of capacity in its own power plants (IPPs). Over 500 employees at 21 locations in six European countries will become part of the Total Energies team.

Total Energies aims to achieve net electricity production of 100 terawatt hours from renewable sources by 2030. The VSB Group will play a key role in this: "We can provide over five gigawatts of production and storage capacity in Europe alone in the coming years," emphasizes Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group. Together, they aim to advance the expansion of wind, solar energy, and storage as efficiently and quickly as possible.

Stéphane Michel, President of the Gas, Renewables and Power Division at Total Energies, welcomes the new colleagues: "VSB's expertise and its projects will contribute to the development of our Integrated Power strategy in Europe, and particularly in Germany."
The purchase price for the acquisition is approximately €1.57 billion. The acquisition complements Total Energies' recent strategic acquisitions in the battery storage and photovoltaics sectors and underscores the group's transformation into a broadly positioned multi-energy producer.
Focus on innovation and growthWith this acquisition, Total Energies is leveraging the VSB Group's long-standing expertise and innovative strength, particularly in the development of hybrid wind and solar projects. One of Europe's largest hybrid projects, with 450 megawatts, was recently launched in Finland – a prime example of the future viability and growth potential of the new partnership.
The acquisition is exemplary of the dynamism and consolidation in the European renewable energy market. By joining forces, Total Energies and VSB aim to significantly advance the energy transition in Europe and set new standards for sustainable energy supply.
